Year in, year out, committee work is considered the heart of the OWWA. Members from all facets and disciplines of the drinking water industry volunteer their time and talent to serve on one or more of the long list of committees. Your biggest problem might be figuring out how many committees you have time for!
Most committees meet 3-4 times each year, often by teleconference to reduce time and travel costs. Several of the committees plan an annual seminar or workshop focused on a ‘hot topic’ or issue affecting their segment of the industry.
To join a committee and get involved in committee activities simply fill out a Volunteer Application Form, and send it to the OWWA office.
The following OWWA committees are currently looking for volunteers:
- Communications and Public Affairs (CPAC) – This committee holds meetings 3-4 times a year and can be joined via conference call. We are looking for members that are interested in helping the water industry communicate to the public and instill confidence in tap water. See our committee page for recent activities.
- Climate Change - This committee is a joint OWWA/WEAO committee and has members from both organizations. Annually, the committee holds a one-day seminar on topics related to water and climate change impacts and adaptation. The committee meets 4-6 times per year in person or via conference call. We are looking for new members who are interested in bringing education and resources on climate change to professionals in the water industry. See our committee page for recent activities.
- Certification and Education
- Water for People
- Publications – Come join the Publications Committee! Suggest story ideas for our Pipeline magazine and network with water professionals across Ontario to deliver interesting news and information to our members. Committee members have the opportunity to network with other committees, the Board, and industry experts.
