Lakeview WTP to be renamed in honour of Arthur Kennedy

Peel Region Council recently passed a resolution to mark Arthur Kennedy’s 100th birthday, and announced that the Region’s Lakeview Water Treatment Plant will be renamed to “Arthur P. Kennedy Water Treatment Plant”. We would like to thank the Region of Peel for their generous gesture in honoring Mr. Kennedy for his many contributions to the water industry.

Throughout his career, he was the manager of the Toronto Township Public Utilities Commission that was established in 1955, which managed the waterworks for Toronto Township. From 1968 to 1974, he was the manager of the Public Utilities Commission of the Town of Mississauga before it became the Region of Peel.

From 1974 until his retirement, Mr. Kennedy was the Director of the Water and Wastewater Division at the Region of Peel.

Mr. Kennedy was instrumental in the establishment of the Ontario Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) in 1971. From 1973 to 1976 he was the Ontario Section Director on the Board of the AWWA. He also served as the Ontario Section’s Secretary Treasurer from 1971 to 1973.

In recognition of  his dedication and service to the water industry, he received the George Warren Fuller Award from the Ontario Water Works Association in 1974.

The renaming ceremony will take place in May 2019. Addition details to follow.
