Reporting to the Coordinator, Wastewater Compliance, the Compliance Technician – Wastewater is responsible for taking wastewater samples, cleaning and maintaining sampling equipment, performing laboratory tests, and submitting samples to commercial laboratories for regulatory compliance and support of the sewer use by-law.  The Compliance Technician – Wastewater will maintain accurate records, maintain equipment and inventories, perform routine analysis for parameters such as BOD, COD, TSS, pH, phosphorous, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, TKN, E.coli, etc. Other duties include but are not limited to performing wastewater nitrification inhibition test, developing and update testing methods and QA/QC program using “Standard Methods”, preparing standards and reagents for use in the laboratory, maintaining a current inventory of M.S.D.S., coordinating work with Compliance Inspectors.  The Compliance Technician – Wastewater will be required to work outdoors and drive a large City vehicle in all weather conditions, lift sampling equipment weighing up to 20 kg, and will be exposed to industrial effluents and human sewage. Must be able to follow technical procedures, traffic and other safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping practices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must have successfully completed a two (2) year community college program in Environmental Technician or equivalent
  • Applicants must have the ability to complete laboratory tests accurately and in a timely manner and to work with minimal supervision
  • Applicants must be able to meet the physical requirements inherent in wastewater sampling
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard laboratory techniques are required
  • Strong math skills and proficiency in computer applications including the MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. is required
  • Possess a valid Class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing during the course of employment


SALARY RANGE: $27.68 to $30.76 per hour (35 hours per week) plus benefits
