Environmental Services Technician

The Township of Oro-Medonte is a picturesque and progressive community nestled between the cities of Barrie and Orillia in the County of Simcoe. This rural community of approximately 22,000 is currently accepting applications for an experienced and highly motivated Environmental Services Technician to perform operational and maintenance duties within the Municipal water/wastewater facilities including performing Operator in Charge responsibilities for assigned systems on a daily basis.

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services – Operations & Maintenance the Environmental Services Technician will join the Environmental Services Department intent on maintaining a superior level of service to the public.


  1. Grade 12 or equivalent and five year’s operator experience;
  2. Must possess and maintain a Class “G” Driver’s License valid in the Province of Ontario and must agree to maintain satisfactory Ontario driver’s abstract from the M.T.O;
  3. At minimum, possess Class 2 Water Distribution and Supply Certification;
  4. At minimum, possess Class 1 Waste Water Treatment and Class 1 Waste Water Collection Certification;
  5. Thorough knowledge and understanding of environmental health and safety legislation, regulations, procedures and guidelines including the Safe Drinking Water Act, Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Regulations (as amended) 180, 128 169, and 170, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Traffic Management Section 7 of the Highway Traffic Act as well as other statues to monitor program delivery and ensure compliance;
  6. Have a sound knowledge of Municipal Government operations;
  7. Must hold Problem solving and critical thinking skills to diagnose problems and determine steps necessary to achieve an effective solution;
  8. Must have the ability to lift and carry 40 lb., while climbing stairs and on uneven surfaces;

This full-time bargaining unit position offers a salary commensurate with experience and education with a salary range of $26.38 to $31.72 per hour (2018 rate) plus a competitive and attractive benefit package.
