Position Purpose
Reporting to the Supervisor, Centralized Maintenance Support, and under the guidance of the Team Lead Skilled Trades and Operator, is responsible for installing, testing and repairing electrical OR mechanical components and equipment; implementing preventative maintenance programs; and supporting the optimal operation of wastewater treatment plants, associated pumping stations, ground water systems, water treatment plants, associated booster stations and the transmission system to meet Provincial Acts and Regulations and Regional standards.

$35.25 – $38.31 per hour. This is a Union position.

• Certification as a Construction/Maintenance (309A) or Industrial (442A) Electrician by the Government of Ontario
• Successful completion of MOE Operators’ Licence Water OIT and Wastewater OIT within six months of appointment.
• Minimum four (4) years related experience in maintenance and electrical troubleshooting, preferably in a water and wastewater environment, including experience in the installation of electrical/mechanical equipment, commissioning and maintenance of large frequency drives and pumps, as well as associated control wiring.
• Must have completed or be able to successfully complete courses in Preventative Maintenance, CPR and First Aid, Confined Space Entry, and Mobile Crane operation and equipment.
• Valid Ontario class “D” driver’s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and “Z” endorsement or valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license free of serious offences under the HTA and ability to obtain a valid Ontario Class “D” license and “Z” endorsement within six months of appointment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Electric Safety Code and all TSSA, CSA, Reg. 903 and regulations pertaining to environmental and safety aspects in the area of operations and maintenance of water and wastewater.
• Knowledge of relevant industry related legislation and regulations and of the OH&S Act.
• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements for all water or wastewater treatment equipment including, climbing devices, vehicles, mobile crane and associated equipment.
• Understanding of technical manuals and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
• Physical stamina and ability to climb on or into elevated tanks, work in confined spaces, manholes, sewers, treatment tanks, and wet wells, work in all/extreme weather conditions, near or in contact with raw sewage.
• Ability to wear a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus to enter confined spaces.
• Ability to maintain legible, accurate records of activities, and a safe, organized work environment.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team environment.
• Availability and ability to perform standby duties as required in accordance with Branch policy and respond to emergency situations.
• Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
