Manager, Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection

Join our Hamilton Water leadership team in Hamilton, ON.

A civil engineer, environmental engineer or similarly qualified professional with a track record of success in water distribution and wastewater collection infrastructure maintenance and construction, and a customer service focus, you’re ready to lead by example in this management opportunity.

As Manager of Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection, you will assume lead accountability for the delivery of the planning, implementation, and ongoing operations and monitoring of water distribution and wastewater collection programs that meet the growing needs of City of Hamilton residents and businesses. It will be your role to ensure that water distribution and wastewater collection programs are provided in accordance with City and Provincial guidelines, and with minimal disruption to the public.

Your qualifications as Manager, Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection, include:

  • Proven knowledge of the theories and practices of civil or environmental engineering, normally acquired by attaining a university degree or diploma in civil engineering, environmental engineering or a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Previous extensive knowledge and experience in maintenance, construction and customer service programs related to water distribution and wastewater collection infrastructure.
  • Considerable experience in the development of operational and capital budgets, including planning, scheduling, prioritizing and monitoring.
  • Significant experience in the preparation of contract documents and technical reports.
  • Previous experience preparing reports to Council, an asset.
  • Previous management experience gained through progressively more responsible positions, preferably in a municipal environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a large multi-disciplinary staff in a results-oriented and predominantly unionized environment.
  • Possession of, or willingness to achieve, MOECC Class IV Operator Certificate in Water Distribution.
  • Possession of, or willingness to achieve, MOECC Class IV Operator Certificate in Wastewater Collection.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of statutes, regulations and by-laws affecting the Department or Section, such as the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Environmental Protection Act, the Ontario Water Resources Act and the Clean Water Act.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.
  • Highly effective leadership, facilitation, communication, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with elected officials, representatives of other levels of government, management, peers, staff and the general public.
  • Note 1: Must possess and maintain a Class “G” Driver’s Licence valid in the Province of Ontario and provide a personal vehicle for use on the job three (3) or more times per week.
  • Note 2: As a condition of employment, the successful applicant(s) will be required to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check, at their own expense, prior to beginning work in this position.

This permanent, full-time position offers a wage range of $57.714 to $68.910 per hour (based on a 35-hour work week schedule).
