Plant Maintenance Electrical & Instrumentation Planner

Permanent, full-time opportunity with Hamilton Water in Hamilton, ON

Are you a certified Construction & Maintenance Electrician or Industrial Electrician with electrical and/or instrumentation planning, scheduling and coordination experience? Can you work and lead effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented maintenance environment? If your answer in both cases is an enthusiastic “yes”, your skills and experience are in demand by the City of Hamilton.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Plant Maintenance, you’ll be accountable for planning and scheduling activities related to work being done by the electrical and instrumentation teams. As an Electrical and Instrumentation Planner, you’ll also provide support and backup to the Mechanical Planner, as necessary, and may be required to support the maintenance teams in other ways during emergency or abnormal situations.

This role is an exciting career opportunity for a collaborative, self-motivated tradesperson who can handle the full range of plant maintenance activities – from making field inspections and determining the scope of work, to identifying the trades, tools and equipment required to carry out work, from ensuring that work is scheduled efficiently, to creating and maintaining KPIs for maintenance planning and scheduling.

Your qualifications as a Plant Maintenance Electrical & Instrumentation Planner include:

  • A valid Ontario Trade Certificate as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician (Trade 309A) or an Industrial Electrician (Trade 442A).
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in at least one of these areas: Preventive Maintenance (PM), Predictive Maintenance (PdM), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical/instrumentation planning, scheduling and coordination.
  • Practical computer experience within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably Infor-EAM.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong technical knowledge and organizational skills in a fast-paced, dynamic maintenance environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with operating, maintaining and repairing 13.8 kV and 4.16 kV electrical equipment (breakers, switchgears, transformers).
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in OACETT as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Certified Technician (C.Tech.), preferred.
  • Membership or willingness to pursue membership/certification in PEMAC as a Maintenance Management Professional (MMP).
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Solid knowledge of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (RHO).
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and O&M manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and, as required, lead key initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
  • Ability to travel to various work locations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Possession of, and ability to maintain, a Class “G” or better Driver’s Licence valid in the Province of Ontario.

This permanent, full-time position offers a wage range of $33.950 to $38.580 per hour (based on a 40-hour work week schedule).
