You will use your expertise to:

  • Ensure the safety of people, equipment, and the environment according to established refinery practices, procedures and operating guidelines
  • Learn all operating units within the assigned progression at the facility and progress in growing levels of responsibility at the site, while adhering to the refinery’s management systems
  • Work on a dynamic crew that covers a qualified post within an operating unit
  • Report and flag all issues beyond your scope to your leader
  • Perform preventative maintenance and trouble-shooting to maintain process equipment
  • Monitor the operation and equipment for deviations
  • Monitor and adjust equipment and process variables to maintain a safe and environmentally sound operation and to ensure product quality
  • Maintain housekeeping at a high level to ensure a safe work environment

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Proven mechanical aptitude to allow the hands-on operation of plant equipment
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Successfully completed your technical standard safety authority (TSSA) 4A and 4B exams, or environmental technician diploma from an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Two or more years of experience in refinery operations
  • A College Diploma in Chemical Process Engineering Technology, Environmental Technologist and Power Engineering Technologist
  • A fourth class Operating Engineer certification ticket or higher
  • A strong track record of troubleshooting and making timely decisions associated with process upsets
  • An adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic work environment
  • Individuals who don’t take or tolerate shortcuts and if a procedure is incorrect, you fix it

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Sarnia refinery in Ontario, located at 1900 St. Clair Parkway
  • The shift schedule is a 12-hour rotation of days and nights (three on, three off)
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • Individuals are required to adhere to our clean-shaven policy and perform some heavy lifting, use ladders and work on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
  • Individuals are subject to a six-month probationary period and represented by the Sarnia employees’ bargaining association (SEBA) upon completion of your probationary period
