Technologist – CAD/REVIT Intermediate Designer
Water & Wastewater Team

Orangeville / Guelph / Collingwood, Ontario

We are currently seeking an Intermediate CAD/REVIT Designer with 8 – 12 years of experience to join our very active and engaged Water & Wastewater Team.

Our preference would be that the individual works in either our Orangeville, Guelph or Collingwood offices.

Many of our projects are multi-disciplinary so we are looking for an individual who thrives working in a team environment but also has the drive to take the lead on their assigned projects.  Our ideal candidate needs to be comfortable in and enjoy working in both REVIT and AutoCAD. Producing quality engineering drawings is a key part of this position.  As such, we are looking for an individual who is organized and meticulous in their work.

Our ideal candidate will be an individual willing to learn in a fast-paced environment. We expect the team member to be able to start drawings from conceptual design and progress them to at least 66% with limited oversight from our technical staff. We also expect this individual to take the lead on pulling together a complete drawing set which will require coordinating work with the REVIT / CAD Designers in other disciplines (i.e. mechanical, structural, electrical, etc.) so that we have one package where the drawings all look the same and have a coordinated design.

The successful candidate will join an experienced team of professionals with the planning, study, design, approval and construction of both municipal water supply, treatment, pumping, storage and distribution projects; as well as municipal wastewater collection, pumping treatment and disposal projects.

Role Specifics

We are primarily looking for an individual who is looking for a long-term role with our team creating our drawings in AutoCAD and REVIT; however, we want someone who is interested in and has the capability of more than just making drawings from hand sketches.  Our ideal candidate is someone who can sit down with our engineers and senior designers to discuss a project and then get on the computer and start creating drawings from scratch. This includes being able to assist with preliminary design such as pipe sizing, valve selection, etc.

The position will involve (but is not limited to) carrying out the following tasks, and includes:

  • Supporting senior engineers and project managers in the production of preliminary and detailed design drawings including process drawings, section views, site plans, etc.
  • Taking the lead on drawings sets ensuring that the design is coordinated amongst the various disciplines and that the drawing set as a whole looks good.
  • Working under the guidance of project managers and management staff across the company to develop design skills and ensure design quality standards are met
  • Collaborating with and contributing to multi-office design teams to ensure project delivery successfully meets the needs of clients
  • Provide engineering support to multi-discipline project teams as needed
  • Undertaking quantity take-offs and assisting in the development of the bill of quantities
  • Supporting construction inspectors in the field and contract administrators in the office with the development of site instructions and responses to request for information sent in by contractors
  • Mentoring junior Revit/CAD designers
  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional Knowledge & Qualifications

The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

  • Experience developing water and wastewater process drawings and related cross-sections
  • Civil / Environmental / Construction Management design-related education (diploma) OR a certificate / diploma in computer drafting (AutoCAD and/or REVIT)
  • Strong computer design skills with experience and a passion for AutoCAD and REVIT
  • Strong analytical and time management skills
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task and work on a number of projects concurrently
  • Know your way around a word document and spreadsheet (i.e. Microsoft Office).

The following experience and skills are considered assets:

  • Experience with vertical (pumping stations, treatment facilities) and horizontal (pipes) municipal infrastructure design, project management, contract administration and client relationships is an asset but not a requirement
  • Experience with BIM, Civil 3D and MicroStation

It would be beneficial (but not necessary) if you have experience with modeling using programs such as WaterCad, InfoWater and/or SewerCAD.
