The City of Port Colborne is seeking an energetic and motivated candidate who would like to help

The Utility Locate Technician is responsible for accurately locating all underground piping
associated with the City’s water distribution, sanitary and storm sewer collection systems, using
existing records and knowledge of infrastructure. This would also include City owned
utilities ie. private hydro, communications, gas etc. located on City owned property. Using a
locate software program, the Utility Locate Technician is required to prepare accurate reports and
sketches in a timely manner to ensure all locates are completed as per the requirements of
the Ontario One Call system. The Technician is also required to respond to and complete
emergency locate requests (during regular and afterhours) within the prescribed time. As the
designated back up to the Water Meter Reader and Repair Technician position, this position will
provide operational and maintenance services for all City owned water meters. This position also
entails a number of other basic maintenance activities and provides operational support to other
infrastructure services.

You are required to have a Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) certification in Water and Sewer at a
minimum or possess the necessary experience to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Additional
DPT certification in Gas/Oil, Telecom and Power are an asset. Valid Class G driver’s
license is required. Must have a valid DZ license, Water Meter Installer Certificate,
Confined Space Entry training or able to obtain within six (6) months of hire. You have
superior judgement, interpersonal skills, valid and current Basic First Aid, CPR and secondary
school diploma, or equivalent. You are required to have a minimum of three-years utility locating
experience preferably water and sewer in a municipal setting.

This is a full time union position based on 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $25.60 per
hour and a competitive benefit and pension package.
