WBAFN is looking for a minimum level 2 water treatment and water distribution system operator to work under their Project Coordinator and with the certified operators of the five communities with communal water systems operating within the Dokis First Nation, Henvey Inlet First Nation, Magnetawan First Nation, Nipissing First Nation and Wasauksing First Nation communities to maintain the water system. Each community has an Overall Responsible Operator and will remain the ORO. This position is to provide support to the existing operators. Wahnapitae First Nation is also part of the WBAFN but currently is on individual wells. Two of the communities have communal wastewater systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with WBAFN and the Operators Group.
  • Maintain communication with WBAFN staff and the Operators group regarding the status of the systems assigned.
  • Organize and schedule major maintenance tasks, Operators Group meetings, courses, etc., in a group schedule.
  • Visit and assist each community regularly for assistance, major maintenance tasks, vacation and sickness coverage, etc.
  • Help with the regular reporting for the Operators.
  • Help coordinate the Computerized Maintenance Management System including the implementation of new plants on line, adding new work orders, and monitoring the regular activities.
  • Complete quarterly reports on the status of each system.
  • Assist in developing specific training programs for each operator and the group as a whole.
  • Help develop specialty teams to complete challenging tasks and participate as part of the tasks.
  • Help develop efficiencies in the plants by working together.
  • Work with all of the operators regularly but stay independent as a WBAFN employee.
  • Complete, develop and maintain the administration of the Operators group and the Water/Wastewater Hub System.
  • Be responsible for the Monitoring of the systems as a back up to the plant operators.

The operator position is generally a 35-hour week, with some flexibility in the hours worked to best complete the work. On-Call duties may occur, as well as overtime for emergencies or covering operator absences.



  • Current Level II water treatment Operator Certificate. (proof of Certification is required.)
  • Current Level II water distribution Certificate. (proof of Certification is required.)
  • (Recommended) Current Level II wastewater treatment Operator Certificate. (proof of Certification is required.) If not then the commitment to obtain this certificate within a reasonable time frame.
  • (Recommended) Current Level II wastewater collection Operator Certificate. (proof of Certification is required.) If not then the commitment to obtain this certificate within a reasonable time frame.
  • Grade 12 graduate.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 kg (55lb).
  • Microsoft Office proficiency Word and Excel plus hopefully Microsoft project.
  • Valid driver’s license and remain a competent driver with their license as a requirement of employment.
  • Has a reliable vehicle and Ontario driver’s license and willing to daily travel.
  • Intermediate to advanced mechanical knowledge.
  • Strong independent Worker and team player.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Training Certifications, Sampling, First Aid, Confined Space, Working at Heights. WHMIS,


  • Knowledge of Computerized maintenance manage systems an asset.
  • Electrical, mechanical and plumbing expertise is an asset.
  • Qualified First Nation ancestry would be an asset.

Compensation:  Will be competitive with area municipalities and based on the applicant’s level of certification and skill.
