We have an exciting Full Time Unionized opportunity in the

Environmental Services Department for an experienced and motivated individual

Water Operator OIT (JOB # J0918-0048)

In accordance with all applicable City, provincial, federal guidelines, acts and regulations, responsible for the maintenance and repair of water infrastructure and appurtenances including inspection duties involving hydrants, meters, chambers, pumping/booster stations, etc.; completion of associated paperwork.

 Qualifications and experience:

  • Grade 12 graduate or suitable equivalent.
  • Holds and maintains a valid Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change’s Water Distribution “Operator-in-Training” Operator Certificate and willingness to obtain a Water Distribution Level-1 drinking water certificate.
  • Successfully complete Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s Drinking Water Operator Entry Level Course within sixteen (16) months of obtaining the OIT, as required under O.reg 128/03 made under Safe Drinking Water Act.
  • Holds and maintains a valid Water Meter Installers certificate issued by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
  • Working knowledge and application of Systems Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Alarm Dialer systems.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in various computer programs including but not limited to. Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word etc.).
  • Ability to read maps, drawings, schematics, plan and profiles using in part computer technologies etc.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license in good standing with satisfactory driver’s abstract, in accordance with the Fleet Management Policy. Willingness to obtain a Class “D” with a “Z” endorsement if required.
  • Holds and maintain a valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Maintains adequate training in all required health and safety requirements in accordance with City policies and procedures and all provincial and federal guidelines, acts and regulations.
  • Must be available to work overtime, shift work and on-call assignments 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, as required consistent with the provisions of the collective agreement.
