WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR, PERMANENT

Hours: 40 hours per week; evenings, nights, weekend and Statutory Holiday work is required.
Salary: $22.44 – $34.22 per hour (Benefits/Pension/Vacation)

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Water Treatment, the position involves the operation of a Level IV Water Treatment Plant and associated facilities, working alone during rotating shifts (24 hours, 7 days, on a year-round basis).

EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS:

Essential (minimum) Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a minimum two (2) year post-secondary program in Environmental field or suitable equivalent (as outlined in MOECC Guideline 3.10, group 1-100% Relevance).
  • Minimum valid level I Water Treatment Subsystem MOECC Certification.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s license with safe driving record, to be held and maintained.

Asset (preferred) Qualifications:

  • Level IV Water Treatment Subsystem MOECC Certification
  • Ability to work alone in operational decision making situations and implement changes to treatment processes.
  • General troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of provincial Safe Drinking Water legislation.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (at least 50 lbs.)
  • Demonstrated record keeping, time management, organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Thorough knowledge of SCADA, PLC, and/or Network systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of DWQMS.
  • Training on Hach analytical equipment.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Essential (minimum) Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year operational experience as an OIC in a Large Municipal Residential System (as defined in O. Reg. 170 under the SDWA).

Asset (preferred) Qualifications:

  • Exposure to SCADA environment.
  • General maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience working independently.
  • General lab experience for turbidity, chlorine, fluoride and bacteriological sampling and testing.
  • Generator operation and maintenance.
  • Hand and power tool use.
  • Instrument calibration and maintenance.
  • Shift and on-call experience.
