Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, Water Wastewater Facilities, performs mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance to Water and Wastewater facilities equipment. Responsible for the efficient use and control of materials, parts and equipment while adhering to City Safety Policies and Procedures as well as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. Completion of necessary reports as required.

Summary of Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs mechanical repair and preventive maintenance to water and wastewater facilities equipment.
  • Answers telephone and radio; responds to enquiries and relays messages.
  • Gives advice and assistance to other personnel on mechanical issues.
  • Responsible for adherence to the City Safety Policies and Procedures and the Department of Labour Regulations at worksite.
  • Ensures efficient use and control of materials, parts and equipment.

Qualifications Required for Position:

  • Certification as Industrial Millwright in Ontario
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and correct unsafe conditions related to work activities.
  • Understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all regulations applying to the work activity.
  • Sufficient clerical ability to complete necessary reports.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge & experience in mechanical & electrical equipment repair and installation with minimum three (3) years’ experience in Mechanical repairs operations.
  • Knowledge of operating standards, practices & procedures for water/wastewater treatment plants an asset.
  • Ability to provide and apply practical problem solving skills.
  • Must hold or obtain MOE OIT within 3 months and is required to achieve Water and Wastewater Treatment and Distribution Level I certification.
  • Computer skills/knowledge for process control and data entry; record keeping skills.
  • Ability to perform manual labour.
  • Must possess a valid Class G driver’s license.
  • On-call availability.
