The District Municipality of Muskoka is currently recruiting for Operators

in our Water & Wastewater Division. 

The current vacancies require Operators with minimum of Level 1 Licensing in each of Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection.  These roles can be assigned to any of our locations throughout the District of Muskoka, which may require

different licensing levels.  Flexibility to work throughout all of Muskoka is required.

An Overview of the Position

The WWW Operators assist in the operation and maintenance of District water and water pollution control facilities including associated distribution and collection systems.  At the present time, we are recruiting for both Level 1 and Level 2 Operators.  The licensing requirements for each vary depending on the facility to which you are assigned.

What We are Looking For

To be considered for this role, you will meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education with one to three years of related experience and an aptitude for electrical and/or mechanical work.
  • Must be certified or licensed at the appropriate level as specified for the work location (i.e. Level 1 Operators require level 1 licenses in all four categories, Level 2 Operators require Level 2 licenses, etc.)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with municipal personnel and the general public.
  • A sound knowledge of engineering, electrical and mechanical systems and proficiency in computers.
  • Must possess an aptitude to work with various computer programs and systems
  • You are required to hold a valid Ontario driver’s licence, to be able to travel between the various District work locations

The Opportunity


Your exposure to/ involvement in the below tasks will be dependent on your level of Licensing / what level of Operator you are.

All qualified Operators are required to participate in standby duties on a rotational basis.


  • Operate and maintain water distribution and sewage collection systems and/ or hauled waste facilities
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of the facility including monitoring and recording of all charts, meters, gauges, etc. on a daily basis
  • Assist in the preparation of the daily logging of the facility performance.
  • Assist in or perform the sampling and laboratory testing for various parameters associated with water and sewage works.
  • Respond to customer concerns and complaints
  • Carry out, or makes arrangements to carry out, necessary repairs on any equipment related to assigned
  • Work safely and in compliance with relevant statutes and regulations and within the safe work procedures and directives as established by the District.
  • Conduct facility tours and participate in public education events
  • Act as the OIC as defined in provincial statutes
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
